Their Shoes #45

Moe received her shoes from the Bargain Annex.

What is your biggest struggle with poverty on a daily basis?

“Shelter and food. If I don’t find a place to live by August 31, me and my son will be homeless. The new landlord doesn’t want people living in the apartment anymore. I can’t find a place! It’s really hard to come up with the first and last month’s rent when you’re on disability. And, to get an apartment these days, you need to have a co-signer. I don’t  have one.”

What would you like people to know about living in poverty?

“It’s hard. It’s disappointing. It’s scary. It’s nerve-wracking.”

“I have some family here in Windsor but nobody has room to take us in. My Mom’s in a wheelchair and she’s only got a one-bedroom apartment. My son’s Meme has a one bedroom place too and her son is living with her plus two animals. There’s no way we could stay there.”

“I don’t believe in faith after all I’ve been through. I have to find something by next Thursday or we’ll be on the street. What keeps me going everyday is my son. I have to do better for him.”
